New York’s Appellate Division, Second Department Expands Its Virtual Operations; Transition to a “Virtual Court Model” Is “Nearly Complete” Print PDF
04.15.2020
The Second Department has announced that its “transition to a virtual court model” is “nearly complete”, and is “now in the position to act more robustly”:
- Thanks to “the tireless efforts of [their] outstanding technology staff,” the Court was able continue its existing calendars of appeals through April 2, 2020. Those appeals were either submitted or argued through Skype.
- The Court started publishing calendars for April 27, 2020 through May 8, 2020. All matters on those calendars will be either marked as submitted, or will have oral argument held through Skype. Litigants must request Skype arguments in advance, by e-mailing the Court at ad2clerk@nycourts.gov.
- The Court continues to hear “essential” matters, including motions, appeals, and emergency applications.
- On April 14, 2020, the Court held its first “virtual admission ceremony,” and will have more such ceremonies in the coming weeks.
